Alaska’s Energy Future

February 14, 2026

This week, HJR 27, SUPPORTING STATE ENERGY DEVELOPMENT, passed out of the House Energy Committee and is now headed to Rules and then the House floor.

This resolution lays out a forward-looking vision for Alaska’s energy and economic future — supporting responsible development of our oil and gas resources, expanding renewables, strengthening grid resilience, and positioning Alaska as a leader in emerging energy opportunities.

The updated version now includes new sections recognizing the potential of:

  • Geologic hydrogen development
  • Advanced nuclear and small modular reactor (SMR) technologies

These additions reflect the reality that Alaska sits at a unique energy crossroads. We have extraordinary natural resources, technical expertise, and strategic advantages. If we approach this thoughtfully, we can build an energy portfolio that strengthens our economy, supports local jobs, and improves long-term energy security.

I encourage everyone — whether you’re in industry, academia, utilities, local government, or simply interested in Alaska’s future — to review the resolution and share your comments, questions, or support with our office.

A special thank you to Chief of Staff and Energy Committee Aide Tim Treuer for his hard work carrying this resolution forward. These efforts require careful research, coordination, and persistence — and I’m grateful for his leadership on this.

Alaska’s future won’t be built by standing still. It will be built by thinking ahead and working together.

Please reach out if you’d like a copy of the latest version or want to engage as it moves to the House floor.
